Hi! I'm Winkie Visser. I had worked as a management assistant for over 12 years when my husband and I decided to migrate from the Netherlands to French Polynesia, a group of islands in the South Pacific. With this new place to call home, I was also ready to take on a new line of work. Having tinkered with web design in a distant past (using a WYSIWYG editor) and my husband being a software engineer, I decided I would try my hand at programming.

With hubby as my mentor, I started out in C# to learn the programming basics. Over time it became clear I would love to combine my predilection for design/visuals with coding. This made me steer more towards front-end development, so I focused on HTML, CSS and JavaScript. I discovered how gratifying it is to come up with an idea and build it from A to Z! The cherry on the cake is when the end result is being used and enjoyed by others. I also find it interesting and enlightening to see how they use it and how it can be improved. For me the intersection between coding, design and usability would be ideal.

In my leisure time I enjoy running, photography and drawing. I also have an interior design obsession, which led me to writing and photographing interiors for Apartment Therapy. Aaand, I really like ducks. During the pandemic period and prior to migrating, we lived in the most northern province of the Netherlands for 2 years. This region has a lot of lakes and canals. And ducks. I spent the better part of our stay there feeding them twice a day and discovered how cute and funny they are. Which, in case you were wondering, leads me to...

...Rubber Ducky, which I use in my domain name. As you now might have guessed, it refers to my love for ducks. But also to the rubber duck debugging method, which I use when I'm stuck with a programming problem.

I'm available for full-time remote roles. But I'm also open to short-running remote projects. Practical note: I'm in the Hawaii time zone (UTC -10). Don't hesitate to contact me via mail or the contact form!

A happy duck will bob its head up and down. It's utterly adorable :)
